Poppy Seed Roll
Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 package dry yeast (1 package)
1 egg
4 cups flour
2-3 cans poppy seed filling (or other desired fillings)
Directions:
Dough
Scald milk
Add 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 cup butter
Cool to lukewarm
In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup warm water and 1 package dry yeast
Add milk mixture, 1 egg, and 2 cups flour
Beat until smooth
Add 2 more cups flour, beat until smooth
Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours - 2 days
Roll
Roll dough into 8 x 17 inch (you should be able to make 2 of these)
Be sure that the dough is not too thick
Spread poppy seed filling - leave about 1/2 inch from the edge with no filling
Don’t put too much on
Roll dough into a log
Form into a circle
Cut tabs 1 inch wide
Making sure not to cut all the way through the log, splitting it)
Twist each tab 1/4 turn - all in the same direction
Let rise 1 hour
Preheat oven to 375ºF
Bake for about 20-25 minutes
